Intergenerational Healing & Wellness Center was founded by Soraya Papayoute, LCSW, a dedicated social worker who spent years serving in government and community-based organizations. Throughout her career, Soraya witnessed the lack of culturally responsive mental health care available to the Black and Brown community. Too often, individuals seeking support were met with microaggressions, cultural insensitivity, or approaches that failed to recognize the impact of historical and intergenerational trauma.
These experiences inspired Soraya to build a space where therapy centers the cultural experiences, resilience, and healing of Black and Brown people. A space where clients feel seen, understood, and empowered to heal without having to explain or minimize their lived experiences.
From this vision, Intergenerational Healing & Wellness Center (IHWC) was born. Our practice is rooted in cultural humility, trauma-informed care, and generational healing. We believe that healing is both personal and collective—an act of liberation that honors our ancestors and nurtures the well-being of future generations.
At IHWC, we are more than a therapy practice—we are a movement toward healing, restoration, and empowerment for the Black and Brown community.
